Serving the Jersey Shore Community and the State for Over 30 Years

LePore ♦ Luizzi handles a wide variety of legal matters such as:

Founded by Attorney James LePore

Our firm was established in July of 1987 in Brick Township, located in Ocean County, New Jersey, as the solo practice of James LePore. Mr. LePore had extensive experience as a litigation attorney and Certified Civil Trial Attorney, handling both plaintiff and defense cases for his previous law office. Having spent every summer of his life at the Jersey Shore, he had always dreamed of living and working at the beach and realized his dream in 1987. His vision was to develop a law firm that specialized in all types of litigation, but one that also performed a general practice to serve all the needs of the local community. Mr. LePore is now semi-retired and serves the firm in a specialized manner, assisting in complex litigation matters.

Attorney Peter Luizzi Helps Build the Practice

In June of 1993, Peter J. Luizzi became a member of the firm and soon thereafter, became partner. Peter came from a large Newark firm, Tompkins, McGuire & Wachenfeld.  At Tompkins, Peter gained both plaintiff and insurance defense experience, particularly in larger, complex matters. Prior to becoming an attorney, Peter worked for New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company as an insurance adjustor, handling both property damage and personal injury claims. It was his insurance company training and experience that taught him how insurance companies work, and prepared him for his personal injury practice. He has tried many jury cases for his clients securing favorable results.  He has defended and argued appeals before the New Jersey Superior Court Appellate Division and the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit in Philadelphia. His practice today primarily focuses on personal injury and workers’ compensation on behalf of the injured. He also handles real estate, general corporate matters for local businesses and municipal court matters.

Certified Civil Trial Attorney Joseph LePore Joins the Firm

In 1995, Joseph LePore joined the firm.  Following graduation from law school, Joseph completed a one year judicial clerkship with the Honorable Peter E. Doyne (ret.), formerly the Assignment Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County.  Thereafter, he began a career focused solely on litigation and fighting for the rights of his clients.  He has successfully tried many cases to jury verdict and has successfully argued before the Appellate Division of the Superior Court.  Mr. LePore is one of only about 2 percent of New Jersey civil trial attorneys to be recognized by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, a rare recognition bestowed on only the most skilled lawyers.  Mr. LePore also has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in his field in New Jersey Monthly Magazine each year since 2010, a rating which recognizes outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.  Mr. LePore has also been named as a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer” by the National Trial Lawyers Association.

Former Law Clerk Durmeriss Cruver-Smith Adds Valuable Experience to the Firm

Ms. Durmeriss Cruver-Smith graduated from the University of Georgia in 1985 and Rutgers University, School of Law  in 1998.  She began her legal career by interning for LePore ♦ Luizzi while she was in law school, bringing an intellectual mind along with a drive to succeed attitude to the law firm.  Ms. Cruver-Smith devotes her practice to family law, including divorce, post-divorce issues which at times can be more litigious than the actual divorce, restraining order and domestic violence hearings, the Department of Children Protection and Permanency (DCPP) matters, custody, child support and all other family related matters.  She has had vast experience in this area of law and has tried numerous domestic violence matters to conclusion, both on behalf of the victim and the alleged wrongdoer.  Since joining the firm, she has effectively represented her clients and has become a trusted and zealous advocate for many people facing serious family related issues.  She tries to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients amid the financial and familial crises that often goes along with these type of cases.  Ms. Cruver-Smith also handles estate and probate matters, both litigated and non-litigated.

Peter Luizzi was an insurance adjustor before he became an attorney so he understands how insurance companies work.  Mr. Luizzi has almost exclusively handled personal injury cases of all kinds for his entire 30 year professional career.  Mr. Luizzi also handles workers’ compensation matters for injured workers and has done so for over 30 years.  Both Mr. LePore and Mr. Luizzi have earned their clients’ trust over the years by consistently achieving exceptional results on their behalf, whether they go to trial or negotiate the best possible settlement for them.
